05 — Beliefs

Not a values page. These are load-bearing — they decide what work I take, what I refuse, and what I am willing to say about a project that did not go well.

  1. 01

    Christ is King.

Not a private preference held quietly alongside the work. The claim is about everything, including the work, including whether I am honest about what a project actually achieved.

    Colossians 1:16–18

  2. 02

    Craftsmanship still matters.

Most things are now made to be replaced. A small number are made to be kept. The second kind costs more, takes longer, and is the only kind worth putting a name on.

  3. 03

    Beauty is not frivolous.

The argument that beauty is a luxury is always made by people selling something ugly. Care shows. People can tell. They have always been able to tell.

  4. 04

Technology should make capable people more capable.

Not replace judgment, not manufacture the appearance of competence, not put a chat interface in front of a problem that needed a decision. Tools should extend a person who already knows what they are doing.

  5. 05

AI makes taste more valuable, not less.

When production cost collapses, everyone can make the thing. Almost nobody can tell which version is good. The scarce skill was never execution — it was knowing what to execute, and being willing to throw out the nine that were merely fine.

  6. 06

    Truth beats positioning.

Every figure on this site is labeled with where it came from, and several projects here are shown with their defects described. That costs something. It costs less than being caught.

  7. 07

    Build for permanence.

Design for the version of the business that exists in ten years, not the one that exists at launch. Most rebuilds are not caused by taste changing. They are caused by someone building for a moment.

  8. 08

    Family comes before ambition.

There is a version of this career that goes further and faster, and it is available, and I am not taking it. The people at my table are not a constraint on the work. They are the reason there is any point to it.
